Antique Silver Tea Strainer Prussian Kings Fredrick Wilhelm IV, Wilhelm & Wilhelm II Coins Decoration

  • $ 249.99

Description:  A beautiful and unusual antique silver tea strainer. The strainer which has a central hemispherical silver strainer with a nice geometric design, is decorated with German Prussian silver coins from the reign of kings Fredrick Wilhelm IV, Wilhelm, and Wilhelm II. The coins range in dates from the mid to late 1800s, which is the period of reign by those three kings and are represented by KM numbers 462, 485, and 510. The coins and the strainer are held together with solder and have a floral decoration between the coins. The handle is made of a twisted wire with a two mark coin dated 1891 but having no obverse. There is also one coin from Hannover showing a horse on the obverse (KM235) right under the handle. The entire piece weighs over 60 grams or about 2 troy ounces of silver. The entire piece appears to be original and was put together in the late 1800s or possibly the early 190s. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our  description.

Date: Uncertain but most likely late 1800's or early 1900's.

Origin: Was purchased in an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The piece measures ~3 3/4" in diameter and 5 1/2" long. The strainer itself measures 2 1/4" in diameter and is about 3/4" deep. It  weighs 60 grams.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked as to the maker.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice and unusual silver antique piece which you very seldom see.

Condition: The strainer is in good condition. It has no dings, breaks or repairs. Some of the coins are a bit bent but they are in general fine condition. I would grade most of the coins from fine to very fine with a couple being very good.  There is a coin, where the obverse is no longer there and we are not certain whether it has been covered or is missing because of wear. The piece could probably use a good cleaning but we will leave this to the next owner. Other than that the piece is in good shape given that it is over 100 years old and served a utilitarian function. Just a great antique. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty and condition of this great piece.
