Rare Silver Coin from Egypt 1920 AD or 1338 AH One Year Type 5 Piastres Sultan Fuad

  • $ 350.00

Description: A one year type extremely fine or better 1338 AH or 1920 AD Egyptian five piastres rare silver coin. The coin depicts the name of Sultan Fuad or Fouad (who ruled Egypt during the British occupation) the first with the date 1335 AH, when he became sultan (his accession date) on the obverse. The reverse has the denomination, the AH and the AD dates and saying "al-sultanah al masryah" or the Egyptian Sultanate. This coin has the reeded edge. It is lightly toned with wear commensurate with its circulated state. Please carefully review the scan provided as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1920.

Mint: Egypt (actually these were minted in England and have the mint mark H on the reverse for Birmingham England).

Size and Weight: This is a 5 piastres, weighs ~7 grams of 83.3%25 silver and is approximately 26 mm in diameter.

References: It is KM #326.

Condition: I would grade this coin as a extremely fine or better (please review the scan and make your own judgment) with all the details being still there and very readable with wear commensurate with the grade and age of the coin. The coin is lightly toes especially along the periphery of the obverse and having some lighter spotting within the toning and a few minor areas of staining or dark areas on the reverse (these can be seen clearly in the scan). In addition the coin has a few scratches, minor bag marks, and several dings to the rim which can also be seen in the scan. The coin is much better than the scan suggest. Please see photo for additional condition information. Definitely a quality coin deserving a spot in your collection.
