Rare Unlisted Large Bronze Coin 1869 AD-1277 AH Year 10 One Year Type Egyptian 40 Para (Qirsh) Counter Marked "H" Ottoman Sultan Abdul Aziz Extremely Fine ANACS EF40

Description: A great looking extremely fine 1869 AD (1277 AH year 10 of Abdul Aziz's reign) Egyptian, while under Ottoman rule, 40 para or one Qirsh bronze coin. The coin is graded as EF 40 by ANACS and comes in a plastic slab so labeled. This rather rare large flan coin depicts the tughra of Abdul Aziz (the Ottoman Sultan, in Turkey, at the time) on the obverse and denomination below it. The reverse has the Legend "Duribah Fee Misr 1277" (struck in Fustat on the outskirts of modern day Cairo the capital of Egypt in 1277AH) and shows that it was struck in the 10th year of Abdul Aziz's reign, translating to 1869. The year 1277 AH (1861 AD) is the year when Abdul Aziz became sultan This is a one year type coin, has the wide rim with dentilated border and is countermarked with an H at the bottom of the reverse. It is similar to KM 248.2. However, Krause does not mention the H counter mark for this number and as such this coin is unlisted in the Standard Catalog of World Coins. Size and Weight: This is a 40 para or one Qirsh measures about 37 mm and weighs about 25 grams of bronze.

References: Similar to KM #248.2. However, it is not listed in the Standard Catalog of World Coins with the countermark.

Condition: The coin is graded as extremely fine or EF 40 by ANACS. It comes in a plastic slab that is marked as such. The coin is beautiful, is problem free and has great eye appeal. Please see photo for additional condition information.
