1813 Large Silver Coin Guatemala 8 Reales Mint Mark NGM Ferdinand VII King Of Spain Nicely Toned Very Fine or Better
Description: A nicely toned very fine or much better 1813 NGM Guatemala silver coin. This is the Ferdinand VII 8 Reales depicting the bust of King Ferdinand the seventh of Spain on the obverse. The obverse of this large, silver dollar size coin, has the legend "FERDIN.VII.DEI.GRATIA" surrounding the king's bust and the date 1813 below it. The reverse depicts the crowned arms of Spain between pillars with the legend "HESPAN.ET IND.REX.NG8R.M." all surrounding the arms. These coins were used extensively in the US before the silver dollars were circulated. The coin is nicely toned and shows all the details very well but shows areas of strike weakness along the edges and as well as minting defect where the N of HISPAN is on the reverse and where the king's name is on the obverse. These defects and weakness of strike are the reason we grade the coin as VF+ instead of XF++. This is a great coin that would make a great addition to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Weight and Size: The coin weighs ~27 grams of 89.6%25 silver and measures about 39 mm.
Condition: I would grade the coin as choice very fine or mush better with all the details being still very well preserved and showing light wear. The coin shows areas of strike weakness along the edges and as well as minting defect where the N of HISPAN is on the reverse and where the king's name is on the obverse. These defects and weakness of strike are the reason we grade the coin as VF+ instead if XF++. The coin also has several minor dings and bumps to the edges. The reverse retains the details of the arms and has minimum wear. The coin has some minor scratches and bag marks. It is nicely toned and has great eye appeal. Please view photos for additional condition information.
