1818 Large Silver Coin Mexico 8 Reales Mint Mark Mo Assayer JJ Ferdinand VII of Spain Toned Very Fine or Much Better
Description: A great looking and nicely toned very fine to about extremely fine 1818 Mexican silver coin. This is the Ferdinand VII 8 Reales depicting the bust of King Ferdinand the Seventh of Spain on the obverse. The obverse of this large, silver dollar size coin, has the legend "FERDIN.VII.DEI.GRATIA" surrounding the king's bust and the date 1818 below it. The reverse depicts the crowned arms of Spain between pillars with the legend "HESPANIA.ET IND.REX" followed by the mint mark "Mo" then 8R. J.J. all surrounding the arms. These coins were used extensively in the US before the silver dollars were circulated. The coin is nicely toned and shows all the details very well. It is a truly a nice coin with great eye appeal and has nice heft to it. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Weight and Size: The coin is ~40 mm in diameter and weighs ~26.9 grams of 90.3%25 silver.
Condition: I would grade this coin as a nice very fine or much better with all the details being very well preserved and showing minor wear commensurate with its age and circulated state. The coin has wear in the center of the Spanish arms on the reverse but very little wear to the king's hair of top of the obverse. It also has wear to the highest points and some of the lettering on the reverse but still retains its details and looks great. The coin has a few minor scratches, dings and bag marks, which do not distract from its great eye appeal. Other than that the coin is problem free.
