1825 JL Large Silver Coin Bolivia 8 Reales Ferdinand VII Of Spain Mint Mark PTS
Description: A nice very fine or better 1825 PTS J.L. Bolivian silver coin. This is the Ferdinand VII 8 Reales depicting the bust of King Ferdinand the seventh of Spain on the obverse. The obverse of this large, silver dollar size coin, has the legend "FERDIN.VII.DEI.GRATIA" surrounding the king's bust and the date 1825 below it. The reverse depicts the crowned arms of Spain between pillars with the legend "HESPAN.ET IND.REX" followed by the mint mark as a monogrammed "PTS.8 R. P.J." all surrounding the arms. These coins were used extensively in the US before the silver dollars were circulated. The coin is shiny and shows all the details very well. This is a nice coin, which we believe was cleaned, that would make a great addition to your collection at a very reasonable price. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: 1825.
Origin: Bolivia, Potosi Mint.
Weight and Size: The coin is ~38 mm in diameter and weighs ~27.03 grams of 89.6% silver.
References: KM#84.
Condition: I would grade the coin as very fine or better with all the details being very well preserved with some wear at the higher points commensurate with its age and circulated state. The coin, which we believe was cleaned, is rather shiny and still beautiful. It shows quite a bit of the details of the king's facial features and hair and the legends are well preserved, obvious, and very readable. The reverse retains the details of the arms and has less wear when compared to the obverse. The inscriptions on the reverse are also very readable and very well preserved. The coin has scratches and some bag marks but truly nothing to worry about. All in all, a nice example of this type of coins at a very reasonable price.
