1837 Hard Times Token Jackson I Take Responsibility Van Buren Metallic Currency
Description: A good veery fine or better hard times copper token. The circa 1837 token shows president Andrew Jackson with a sword and a purse popping out of a chest with the inscription "I TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY" along the edge on the obverse. The reverse shows a ship in rough waters with the legend "VAN BUREN METALLIC CURRENCY" and the date 1837 surrounding the scene along the edge. The token has a plain edge and is nicely toned. It weighs ~10.5 gm and is ~28.5 mm in diameter. The token, which was in circulation during the 1830s and 40s was mocking president Jackson's economic policies. A great looking and very desirable copper Hard Times token, with a rarity index R1, to add to your collection.
