1841 Hard Times Copper Token Webster Credit Currency Van Buren Metallic Currency

Description: A good very fine or better hard times copper token. The circa 1841 token shows a ship named “Constitution” sailing in a soft sea with full sails with the legend "WEBSTER CREDIT CURRENCY 1841" along the edge on the obverse. The reverse shows a ship named “Experiment” on rough sea and wrecked against rocks with the legend "VAN BUREN METALLIC CURRENT 1837" surrounding the scene along the edge. The token has a plain edge and is nicely toned. It weighs ~10.3 gm and is ~28.5 mm in diameter. The token displays a break line within the original die which is obvious between the letters C and Y and extends to the boat on the obverse. The token, which was in circulation during the 1840s was referencing Daniel Webster the senator from the state of Massachusetts at the time. A great looking, scarce, and very desirable copper Hard Times token, with a rarity index R2, to add to your collection. Condition: The token is in very fine condition. It is nicely toned and has its details fairly well preserved with considerable ware. The token is soiled and shows honest even wear throughout. The word EXPERIMENT on the ship shown on the reverse is worn off and is a difficult to discern as is the word CONSTITUTION on the obverse ship but can you can still read the letters CO....TIO. Other than that, the piece is in very fine condition and has nice eye appeal, A great quintessential Hard Times token that is in good very fine condition and is well-preserved to add to your collection.
