Description: A good extremely fine or much better 1850s brass merchant token. The token is for A.C.Yates & Co. of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The token is undated but was issued in the 1850s. The obverse shows a man nicely dressed and leaning on a column and is surrounded by the legend "THE LEADING AND POPULARCLOTHING HOUSEOF PHILADA" along the edge. The reverse has the name of the business "A.C.YATES & CO. CLOTHIERS" in the center surrounded by the legend "LEDGER BUILDING, COR.6th & CHESTNUT STS." along the edge. The token has a plain edge. It weighs ~8.5 gm and is ~27 mm in diameter. A great looking and very interesting brass merchant token from the 1850s to add to your collection. Date: The token is not dated but known to have been issued in the 1850s.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in southeastern Pennsylvania, USA.

Condition: The token is in good extremely fine or much better condition. The token has light wear commensurate with its age and circulated state. It has even light wear and some light toning. The token has a bump or two to the edge. It has lost most of its brassy luster, but still retains some of it around the lettering on both sides. The facial details of the Gentleman are still well preserved and discernable. This is a nice and well-preserved merchant token from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to add to your collection.
