1870 Dominion of Canada Currency Twenty Five Cents Banknote Pick# 8a, VF
Description: A nice very fine Dominion of Canada 25 cents banknote. This is the March 1st, 1870 issue banknote signed by Harrington. The note, which is black on green underprint shows Britannia with a spear in the center of the front. The back is green with guilloche design showing a statement as to the redeemability of the banknote. The front shows the denomination, one signature, the date of issue, and the name of the printer in the bottom margin. The banknote has no serial number and no watermark that we could find. This banknote is poorly cropped and as such it lost its bottom margin. Other than that, it is a nice very fine specimen of this rather scarce low denomination banknote. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: March 1st 1870.
Printer: British American Bank Note Co, Montreal & Ottawa.
Size: Measures ~4 1/2" by ~2 1/4".
Pick Number: P 8a.
Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice very fine with all the details being preserved. The note has a vertical and horizontal folds as well as general light wrinkling. It is lightly soiled but has no stains. The note has no graffiti, no splits, no tears, no pinholes, and no repairs. The corners are intact with rounding, bumps, and minor losses. The main issue we see is the fact that the note is badly trimmed and as such its bottom margin on the front is mostly lost and the left margin on the front is rather narrow. The note is badly margined. Other than that, this is a nice-looking note in very fine condition after being around for over 150 years. A great find making it a worthy addition to your collection. Please see scans for additional condition information.
