Description: A beautiful very fine or better five shillings or one crown silver coin from the United Kingdom. The coin, which is dated 1889, displays queen Victoria's bust facing left and wearing a small crown, on the obverse. The reverse displays the image of Saint George on his horse slaying the dragon and facing right. The coin has the words "VICTORIA D:G: BRITT:F: D:" surrounding the queen's bust on the obverse. The reverse is marked "1889" below St. George's image. The coin has a reeded edge. It weighs about 28 grams of 0.925 silver and is ~38.5 mm. Please carefully review the photos provided as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: 1889.
Mint: Great Britain.
Size and weight: The silver coin weighs ~27.9 gm and is ~38.5 mm in diameter.
References: It is KM #765.
Condition: I would grade this coin as a nice very fine or better. The coin is nicely toned and shows wear commensurate with its age and circulated state. The fields have a few scratches, some bag marks, and nice toning that brings the devices out giving them a great look. The coin has dings along the edge, which is observable looking at the reverse, but not as much from the obverse. The coin is much better than the photos suggest. A nice coin with very nice eye appeal. Please see photos for additional condition information.
