The token, which was originally silvered copper, has lost all the silvering, Shows the image of Independence Hall in Philadelphia on the obverse. The obverse has the legend "INDEPENDANCE HALL PHILADELPHIA" surrounding the building along the edge and the date 1776 below it. The reverse the image of a Tablet above the dates 1876-1901 with the inscription "Silver/Anniversary/Founding of/13th St Store/John Wanamaker" in five lines on the tablet. The tablet is surrounded by two branches has a ribbon hanger on top. The token has a plain edge and measures ~21 mm in diameter. The token has a plain edge and weighs ~4.5 grams. A nice looking and interesting copper token to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date:  1901.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in southeastern Pennsylvania, USA.

Reference: Rulau Phi 116.

Artist:  Unknown.

Weight and Size:  The token weighs ~4.5 grams, is ~21 millimeters in diameter.

Maker:  Unknown.

Marks:  Unmarked as to the maker.

Condition:  I would grade this token as good very fine. It has lost all of its original silvering and is now nicely toned copper. The token shows wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. In our opinion, the reverse shows more wear than the obverse, which is in a better state of preservation. The reverse has the words 13th St. Store considerably worn and more difficult to see than the rest of the writing on the reverse. Be that as it may, this is a nice and well-preserved merchant token to add to your collection. Please view photos for additional condition information.
