1914 Banco Oriental De Mexico 5 Pesos Banknote Puebla Cathedral Esteban Antunano

  • $ 59.99

Description: A beautiful very fine or better five pesos banknote issued by "El Banco Oriental De Mexico" in Mexico. This is the January 3, 1914 issue banknote. The banknote is printed in black over orange and yellow underprint. The front depicts the portrait of Esteban de Antunano within an oval frame left of center and the image of the Cathedral of Puebla at right again within an oval frame. The front also displays the date stamped in red ink and the series FF CCCI again stamped in red twice. The front also displays the denomination, the serial number, and three signatures. The back is orange with the state arms in the center flanked by the denomination. The back has a blue scalloped treasury seal near the top right corner and two blue stamps which have the value 2 Cent and the image of a man facing left. This particular note has the serial number 501583 printed in red twice on the front near the top edge but not on the back. This is a series FF CCCI as evident by the red stamps at both the left and right bottom corners of the front. A very nice and rather scarce note to add to your collection. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 3 January 1914.

Printer: American Bank Note Company of New York.

Size: The banknote measures ~7 1/8" by ~3 1/4".

Pick Number: S381c.

Condition: I would grade this note as nice very fine or better. The note has 3 vertical folds and one lighter horizontal fold. It has general wrinkling. The red ink stamps with the date and series on the front have bled through and they show up on the back. The note is lightly soiled and has a few minor staining especially one in the top margin of the front. The corners are intact but show bumps and rounding. The edges show minor roughness especially at the ends of the folds. The note retains some of its stiffness and crispiness. The note has no graffiti, no pinholes, no tears and no splits. A nice note to add to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
