1914 Mexico Jalapa Veracruz Eduardo J. Creel & Co. Five Centavos Currency Note Pick Number Unlisted Extremely Fine Banknote
Description: A nice extremely fine or much better Banknote issued by the Eduardo J. Creel & Co. in Jalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. This is the June 1, 1914 series AG.01. five centavos, which was issued by "Eduardo J. Creel & Co.". The banknote is black on pink and depicts the image of a train passing in front of a mountain within an oval to the left of the front. There is Eduardo J. Creel signature vertically on the image within the oval. The back, which is red in color, depicts the Mexican eagle with a snake in its beak in the center of the back with the name of the company "Eduardo J. Creel & Compania S.A." surrounding the eagle. The front of the note displays two signatures, the serial number, and the series AG.01. notation. This particular note has the serial number 23277 displayed once in red on the front near the bottom and has the number 4677 in red near the top of the front. These numbers are not displayed on the back. The note has no water mark that we could find. Please carefully review the scans provided as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: June 1, 1914.
Printer: Unknown
Size: The banknote measures ~6 3/8" by ~3".
Pick Number: P #Unlisted, Frampton Opus M4017.
Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice extremely fine or much better with all its details being well preserved and having fresh and vivid colors. The note is intact with no graffiti, no pinholes, no tears, and no splits. Its edges are intact with no roughness and its corners are squared with minimum rounding if any. The note has a few light colds here and there. These are so light they are difficult to see but are there. The paper is still crisp and has most of its original sheen. The banknote has a black stain on the back, which we believe is ink from Eduardo J. Creel's signature on the front which we believe came from a similar note behind this one in the pack where the notes were packed together before the ink was fully dry. A very nice piece to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
