1916 Oaxaca State Mexico Series U Five Peso Banknote P# S954 Crisp Uncirculated
Description: A crisp uncirculated Banknote from the State of Oaxaca in Mexico and is the note dated 10 February 1916. It is a five pesos currency note that appears to be very crudely printed. Although the note is crisp uncirculated, the printing on it looks very crude and exhibits light spots and is difficult to read in other spots. It is blue and green on yellow and orange underprint. It shows the wreathed head of a woman within a circle in the upper left corner and has two signatures. The back shows the large image of Pablo Benito Juarez (President of Mexico at the time and a native of Oaxaca) to the left and a green treasury stamp in the upper right corner. The front has a blue zigzagged border while the back has a green zigzagged border. This particular note has the serial number 810176 on the front twice in green and does not display the serial number on the back. It is series "U" and has two signatures displayed on the front but has no water mark that we could find. The eagle arms of Mexico is in faint orange in the background in the center of the front. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: 10 February 1916.
Printer: The printer is noted on the front in the bottom margin but the printing in blue is jumbled but should say TEPOGRAFIA ARTISTICA DE JULIAN S. SOT-O. OAX.
Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/8" by ~2 13/16".
Pick Number: Pick number S954.
Condition: I would grade the banknote as choice crisp uncirculated. Although the note is crisp uncirculated, the printing on it looks very crude and is difficult to read in some spots. The note is clean, crisp with no tears, graffiti, tears, or splits. It has no folds and no wrinkling and its corners are squared with no rounding or bumps. The note has a perfectly round hole on the margin near the top left corner of the front. This hole appears to be original to the making of the note. The note's paper is light and retains its full crispiness and stiffness. Just a very nice banknote to add to your collection. Please see scan for additional condition information.
