1929 Banknote from Bolivia Twenty Bolivianos Mercury Seated Nice Very Fine or Much Better Stamped Banco Central De-Bolivia

  • $ 54.99

Description: This is a nice very fine or much better banknote from Bolivia. This is the twenty Bolivianos currency note issued by the Bank of the Bolivian Nation in La Paz on 11 May 1911 and was the provisional issue by the Central Bank of Bolivia in 1929. The note is black with a multicolored guilloche design on the front. It shows Mercury seated on what looks like a machine with the image of a river and falls in the background on the front. The back is orange in color and displays the Bolivian arms in the center. The front displays the denomination, the date, the serial number in red, the series D in red and three signatures in black. The front is also stamped in blue "BANCO CENTRAL DE-BOLIVIA" indicating that this is the provisional issue of 1929. The back displays only the denomination. The note has no watermark that we could find. This particular note has the serial number 070453 displayed twice in red on the front. Please carefully review scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: The note is dated 11 May 1911, but the blue stamp on the front indicates thatthis is the provisional issue of 1929 issued by the central bank of Bolivia.

Printer: American Banknote Company, New York.

Size: The banknote measures ~7 3/16" by ~3 1/2".

Pick Number: P 115a.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice very fine or much better with all the details being very well preserved. The note has several vertical folds and a light horizontal fold, it has minor soiling and some wrinkling. The edges are intact with minimum roughness while the corners show some minor rounding. The note has no tears, no stains, no pinholes, and no graffiti. The paper still retains much of its original stiffness and crispiness. Please see photo for additional condition information.
