1931 Large Bronze Medal Centennial of The Reaper Portrait of Cyrus McCormick Its Inventor International Harvester Company

Description: A nice large and heavy bronze medal dated 1931. The medal was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary, or centennial, of the Reaper the first mechanized agriculture tool and it inspired the invention of many other important farm tools and equipment. The obverse of the medal depicts a portrait, partially facing left, of Cyrus McCormick the inventor of the machine with the legend "CYRUS.HALL.McCORMICK" along the edge on top of the portrait and the [portrait being flanked by the dates 1809-1884 to the left and the legend "INVENTOR OF THE REAPER" to the right. The reverse depicts the image of two men, one mounted, using a horse-drawn reaper, proceeding to the right. The legend "INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER COMPANY" along the edge above the image and the legend "CENTENNIAL OF THE REAPER" on a rectangle below the image. The rectangle is flanked by wheat sheaf and has two crossed wheat straws between the dates 1831 and 1931 on the bottom. The edge of the medal is marked "MEDALLIC ART CO. N.Y." A great looking and very interesting medal to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~136 grams, is ~70 millimeters in diameter, and ~5 millimeters thick at the edge.

Maker: Medallic Art Company of New York.

Marks: Marked MEDALLIC ART CO. N.Y. along the edge of the medal. There is also a small mark with the letters "eidel" next to, it along the edge of the medal, to the right of the collar on the obverse.

Condition: The medal is in excellent condition and if it was a coin I would grade it mint state. The medal has no observable wear with minimum surface marks or scratches. It has what I view as beautiful coloring and is problem free. The medal has a nice patinated brassy look to it and is just beautiful with nice and interesting design.
