1936 Egypt One Pound Banknote National Bank of Egypt Pick 22b, Signed Cook Nice About Fine
Description: A nice about fine banknote from Egypt. This is the 1st September 1936 one pound currency note. The banknote, which was issued by the "National Bank of Egypt" and printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Ltd., New Malden Surrey, England, has a blue design on multicolored background on the front. The front also has a brown circle to the right with the image of Tutankhamen. The back of the note is green with a design showing a mosque in the center. The note is signed Cook. The note has the denomination spelled out in the center of the front and in numerals to the left of the back. This particular note has the serial number 179226 displayed three times on the front and is series J/25. The note has one signature displayed on the front center near the bottom. It is dated 1st September 1936. The banknote has a watermark depicting the head of the sphinx. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: 1 September 1936.
Printer: Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Ltd., New Malden - Surrey, England.
Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/4" by ~3 3/8".
Pick Number: P 22b.
Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good about fine with all the details being well preserved. The note is soiled and has three vertical folds and a horizontal one. The note shows wear to the edge and nicks at the ends of the folds. Small losses can be seen at the edge at the ends of all three vertical folds and to a lesser extent at the end of the horizontal fold. These splits do not reach the design, instead they are limited to the border area. The note appears to have been flattened. The corners are intact but show signs of rounding. The note has no tears, no repairs, and no graffiti (a miracle for an old Egyptian banknote). The note has some spots where the light comes through on the central line where the vertical folds meet the horizontal fold. The note has some minor staining, but no objectionable stains. The colors of the note are clear but display some fading and are dirty. A fine note worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see the scans for additional condition information.
