1938 One Pound Banknote National Bank of Egypt Cook Signature P22 Fine or Better

  • $ 49.99

Description: A nice fine banknote from Egypt. This is the 29th September 1938 one pound currency note. The banknote, which was issued by the "National Bank of Egypt" and printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Ltd., New Malden Surrey, England, has a blue design on multicolored background on the front. The front also has a brown circle to the right with the image of Tutankhamen. The back of the note is green with a design showing a mosque in the center. The note is signed EM Cook for Edward M Cook the Governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. The note has the denomination spelled out in the center of the front and in numerals to the left of the back. This particular note has the serial number 224749 displayed three times on the front and is series J/31. The note has one signature displayed on the front center near the bottom. It is dated 29th September 1938. The banknote has a watermark depicting the head of the sphinx. It is Pick #22b and is listed in the Banknote Book as B121b. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 29th September 1938.

Printer: Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Ltd., New Malden Surrey, England.

Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/4" by ~3 3/8".

Pick Number: P 22b and is listed in the Banknote Book as B121b.

Condition: I would grade the banknote as a nice fine or better. The banknote is soiled, has a few light stains, and has vertical as well as horizontal folds. The note is lightly wrinkled but has no tears and no splits. The edges of the note show light roughness and a few nicks. The corners are intact and show some rounding. The main issue we see is some small and difficult to see breaks in the paper along the first fold to the left and pinholes in a vertical line under the "O" of One in the center of the front. The pinholes appear to be from staples that were removed. These are the main reason we grade the note as fine instead of very fine. Still a nice note to add to your collection. Please see the scans for additional condition information.
