1939 Lebanon One Lira or Une Livre Banknote Roman Columns Baalbek Pick #26a VF35
Description: A nice very fine banknote from Lebanon. This is the 1 September 1939 One Lira or Une Livre provisional issue. The front of the note is green on lilac underprint and shows the image of the roman ruins in Baalbek in the Beqaa Valley in eastern Lebanon. The note is issued by Banque De Syrie Et Du Liban and at the time it was equivalent to 20 French Francs. The front also shows the denomination, the date, and two signatures. The back is red on olive green with a central cityscape surrounded by columns and horses. Both the front and back have a single slash overprint across the entire note. This particular note has the serial number 018,748 and is series J/AX. The note has no watermark that we could find. It is graded as Very Fine 35 EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) by PMG and comes in a plastic holder so labeled.
