Description:  A beautiful very fine or better banknote from France. This is the C.8-5-1942.C fifty francs or Cinquante Francs. The banknote has brown, blue, and red design on multicolor underprint. The front depicts image of Jacques Coeur at left of the front. The front also has a white heart to the right of center where the watermark can be seen. There is a building in the center. The back has a woman with yarn on a stick to the right with sheep as well as cows in the background. The white heart is also there and is to the left of center. This particular note has the serial number 389184970 and is series R.156. It is signed by P. Rousseau and R. Favre-Gilly. The banknote has a water mark depicting, within the white heart, the head of a woman wearing a head dress. This is a relatively scarce banknote that is seldom seen. Please carefully review the scan provided as it is part and parcel of our  description.

Date: 8-1-1942 (January 8, 1942).

Printer: Bank of France.

Size: The banknote measures ~5 3/4" by ~3 1/2".

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice very fine or better with all the details preserved. The note has one vertical fold with a small tear or nick at the top end of the crease. Other than that the note has no other tears, splits, pinholes, or major folds. It does have a few minor creases at the corners, but the corners are intact and square with minimum rounding if any. The back of the note has some dark soiling which can be seen clearly in the scan along the white margins. The note is nicely margined and is in great original condition. This is a rather scarce note in such good condition and is worthy of a spot in any collection.  Please see photo for additional condition information.
