1943 France 100 Francs Banknote Pick Number 105 WWII Issue Tresor Central Very Fine
Description: A beautiful and rather rare very fine banknote from France. This is the October 2, 1943 one hundred francs or cent Francs. The banknote has a deep blue design over a green and violet underprint on the front. It shows the portrait of Marianne, the national emblem of the French Republic, in the center of the front. The back is dark blue on a light blue background. The back has a central design showing a barrel, a bale, and anchor, wheat plants and other agricultural and industrial implements in the center. This is a rather rare banknote with a very simple design issued towards the end of World War II in Corsica since mainland France was occupied at the time. This particular note has the serial number PH479,717 displayed twice in red on the front but not on the back. It is dated 2 Oct 1943 on the back. The note does not have a watermark but has the number 100 printed within the design on the front. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.
Printer: Although not marked as such it is known to have been printed by BWC (Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co.) of England and was issued in Corsica since France was occupied at the time by the Germans.
Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/8" by ~4".
Pick Number: P 105.
Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good very fine or better with all the details being very well preserved. It is an attractive note, with evidence of handling and wear. It has several vertical folds, but no horizontal folds that we could identify. The note has minimal soiling but no stains. the colors are still vivid and without appreciable fading. The paper itself is still relatively crisp and not floppy. There are no tears into the border area, although the edges do show slight wear. Corners also show wear but not full rounding. The note has no pinholes and the corners are intact with minimal rounding but show signs of light folding. The note has no tears or splits and retains quite a bit of its original crispiness. This is a beautiful rare note which would make a great addition to your collection of French banknotes. Please see photo for additional condition information.
