1947 France 500 Francs Banknote Pick Number 129a Banque De France Issue Apparent Very Fine or Better

  • $ 117.77

Description: A beautiful and rather uncommon very fine or better banknote from France. This is the 9-1-1947 Five Hundred francs or Cinq Cents Francs currency note. The banknote is purple and multicolored on both sides. It shows Chateaubriand with a musical instrument in the center of the front. The back has the same coloring as the front and shows Allegorical women sitting and reclining in the center with the denomination top left and top right and the name of the bank top center. This is a relatively scarce banknote with a very interesting and modernistic design first issued at the end of World War II. This particular note has the serial number 245333954 displayed top center of the front but is not shown on the back. It has the date C.9-1-1947.C. shown in the upper center of the front. The front has three signatures. The note has a watermark showing a woman's head. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 9-1-1947 or January 9, 1947.

Printer: Unknown.

Size: The banknote measures ~5 1/2" by ~3 5/8".

Pick Number: P 129a.

Condition: For international buyers, please note that the new US postal rates for overseas shipping for first class shipments are generally very high and we are unable to change them. Additional charges will be incurred depending on the value of the item. So please check the shipping cost to your location before bidding. I would grade this banknote as an apparent very fine or better with all the details being very well preserved. The note is of rather thin paper and retains quite a bit of its original stiffens, crispiness and sheen. It is an attractive note, with evidence of light handling and minimum wear. It has a light vertical fold and no horizontal fold that we could identify. The note has some soiling and light staining. Its colors are still vivid and without fading. The edges of the note do not show any appreciable roughness and the corners are intact with minimum rounding and bumping if any. The note has a deftly done repair of a short tear to center at the end of the fold and a couple of pinholes from a staple near the left edge of the front. It has no graffiti and no splits. This is a beautiful scarce note which would make a great addition to your collection of French banknotes. Please see photo for additional condition information.
