1949 Bank of Portugal 20 Escudos Banknote Pick No. 153a Antonio Luiz de Meneses

  • $ 34.99

Description: A very fine banknote from Portugal. This is the 28 June 1949 twenty Escudos issued by the Bank of Portugal. The note is green and purple on multicolored underprint on the front. It has the image of D. Antonio Luiz de Meneses at the right of the front. The back is green on multicolored background and has the image of an allegoric woman seated with a ship in the back ground and the name of the Bank along the edge of the oval in the center of the back. The note has two signatures, the denomination, the plate number (Chapa 6), date of issue, and the serial number on the front. This particular note has the serial number KRK 17146, which is shown twice on the front. The note has a watermark depicting a man's head facing right. The note shows considerable wear, soiling, some staining, a hole in the center resulting from excessive folding and unfolding. Be that as it may the note is still pleasant looking and would make a great addition to your collection. Please carefully review the scans as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 28 June 1949.

Printer: Bank of Portugal.

Size: The banknote measures ~5 1/4" by ~3".

Pick Number: P 153a.

Condition: I would grade it as very fine. The note shows considerable wear, soiling, some staining, a hole in the center resulting from excessive folding and unfolding. The note is intact with no tears of splits. It has no repairs and no graffiti. The banknote has no additional pinholes besides the one in the center. The note shows roughness along the edges and its corners, which are intact, show some rounding and a few minor bumps. The note has vertical and horizontal folds and general wrinkling. A nice note for the grade and would make a nice addition to your collection of Portuguese banknotes. A great opportunity to obtain this rather elusive note for your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
