1950 Egypt 10 Pound Banknote Pick Number 23c Signature Leith-Ross Beautiful Fine or Much Better Currency

Description:  A beautiful fine or much better banknote from Egypt. This is the February 15, 1950 ten pounds. This is a beautiful and very colorful large banknote. The banknote has orange, yellow light blue, brown, and green colors throughout on the front. It depicts the mosque of Sultan Qala'un the famous Bahari Mamluk ruler, who ruled Egypt in the period 1279 – 1290 to right of the front. It has a white circle to the left of the front where the water mark is located. The back is green with areas of color (orange, yellow and brown). The back depicts a scene of a watering instrument run by a buffalo to the left and palm trees in the center and again having the white circle where the watermark is located.  The front of the note is written in Arabic and English lettering while the back is in Arabic, with only the denomination being in English. The note shows the denomination on both the front and back. The note has a watermark showing the head of a Pharaoh, however, Krause's Catalog suggests it is the Sphinx. This particular note has the serial number 052239 and is series X/142. It is signed by F. W. Leith-Ross, who was the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. The note appears to have been cleaned and flattened. It was issued by the National Bank of Egypt. Please carefully review the scan provided as it is part and parcel of our  description.

Date: 15th February 1950.

Printer: Bradbury Wilkinson & Co. of New Malden, Surrey, England.

Size: The banknote measures ~7 5/16" by ~4".

Pick Number: P23c.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good fine or much better with all the details being very well preserved. The note has several creases both vertical and horizontal, has general wrinkling, is soiled, has some stains, and some foxing. The banknote has light graffiti, appears to have been cleaned (the graffiti is very light suggesting it was cleaned) and has been flattened (the folds and the note in general are stiff). The corners have some rounding and are creased. The note has no pinholes but has short and small tears all around the edges with the longest being 1/4" along the top edge. Please see photo for additional condition information.
