1950 National Bank of Egypt 50 Piastres Banknote Leith-Ross Signature P-21d VF

  • $ 67.77

Description: A nice very fine banknote from Egypt. This is the Cairo 18th January 1950 Fifty piastres banknote issued by the National Bank of Egypt. The banknote is green in color on multi colored background. It depicts the image of King Chephren in profile within a scalloped oval frame to the left of the front. The back of the note is light blue and shows a crescent and three five point-stars left of center and the denomination to the right. The front shows the serial number, the date, and the signature of Fredrick Leith-Ross the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. This particular note has the serial number 626162 and is from the series A/51, which is displayed twice in black lettering on the front and not on the back. The note has a watermark showing a scarab in the bottom of the center. A nice note worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 18th January 1950.

Printer: Bradbury, Wilkinson, and Co. Ltd in England.

Size: The banknote measures ~5 1/2" by ~3 1/16".

Pick Number: P 21d and is listed in the Banknote Book as B120d.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice very fine with all the details being well preserved. The note shows signs of circulation. The note has vertical and horizontal light folds. The note is soiled and has darkened from use. Its edges show light roughness but no losses, no tears. and no splits. The note still retains some of its stiffness and crispiness. It has no objectionable staining, but shows concentrated soiling along the central vertical fold on the back. It has no graffiti and no pinholes. The corners are nicely squared with minimum rounding. A nice example of this rather scarce note in very fine condition to add to your collection. Please see scans for additional condition information.
