1960 Banknote The Royal Bank of Scotland One Pound Signed Ballantyne P# 324b XF

  • $ 67.77

Description: A beautiful extremely fine banknote from Scotland. This is the 1stn September 1960 one pound sterling note issued by The Royal Bank of Scotland. The note which is clean and retains quite a bit of its original crispiness is dark blue on yellow and brown underprint on the front. The front of the note shows a woman in each bottom corner one holding up a cornucopia and one wearing a helmet and holding a spear. The front shows the signature of the General Manger, has the serial number and the denomination. The back is black or dark blue on white and depicts bank buildings in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The image of the Glasgow bank has the name of the engraver W. H. Egan upside down in small letters within the foreground of the image. This particular note has the serial number BA 510643, which is shown in black twice along the top edge. The banknote has no watermark that we could find. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1st September 1960.

Printer: W. & A. H. Johnston & G. W. Baconn Ltd of Edinburgh.

Size: The banknote measures ~6" by ~3 3/8".

Pick Number: P 324b.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a beautiful extremely fine with signs of circulation. The note has three vertical folds with no observable horizontal folds. The note also has a few wrinkles here and there and is lightly soiled but has no obvious objectionable staining. The note has no pinholes, no graffiti, no tears, and no splits. Its edges are intact with minimum observable roughness in the middle of both top and bottom edges. The corners are intact and squared with some minor rounding. The note has two small shiny spots along both left and right edge of the back at the middle. We are not certain what they are but are there. Other than that, this is a great looking banknote which would make a great addition to your collection. Please see the photos for additional condition information.
