1961 South African Reserve Bank 20 Rands Banknote Van Riebeeck P# 108a XF++
Description: A beautiful extremely fine or better Banknote from South Africa. This is the South African Reserve Bank no date twenty Rands known to have been introduced in 1961. The banknote is brown and violet in color with portrait of Jan Van Riebeeck in a green oval frame to the left of the front. There is a scene showing wild animals in the lower left corner and along the left edge of the front. The scene depicts antelopes, zebra, monkey, buffalos, and fruits. There is also a woman with a child and a jug on her head along the right edge of the front. The back has the same color scheme as the front and displays the exterior of a diamond mining operation. The note is written in English and Afrikaans. The front has one signature and the serial number as well as the denomination. This particular note has the serial number D over 1370061, which is displayed twice on the front in black. The back only displays the name of the bank in Afrikaans over English and the denomination. The note has a watermark displaying the portrait of Jan Van Riebeeck, but no security thread. Please carefully review the scan provided as it is part and parcel of our description.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as extremely fine or better. The note has light wrinkling and possibly a very light vertical fold in the center. The banknote is lightly soiled but has no stains. The note retains quite a bit of its stiffness, crispiness, and sheen. It has no tears, no splits, no pinholes, and no graffiti. The edges are intact and show minimal roughness but no nicks. The corners are intact, squared with minimal rounding if any. The colors of the note are clear, vivid, and very bright.
