1971 Banco Nacional Ultramarino Portuguese Guinea 100 Escudos P 45a Apparent UNC
Description: A nice apparent crisp uncirculated banknote from Portuguese Guinea or Guine. This is the December 17, 1971 One Hundred Escudos banknote issued by the Banco Nacional Ultramarino. The banknote is blue over multicolored underprint on the front. The front displays the image of Nuno Tristao, the 15th century explorer to the right and the Portuguese arms in the center above the denomination. This is the note known as "DECRETOS-LEIS 39221 e 44891". The back of the note has the same color scheme as the front. It shows the image of a woman on a pier with ships (from various eras) in the water in front of her and the seal of the Banco Nacional Ultramarino in the bottom left corner. The front has two signatures, the date of issue, and the serial number. This particular note has the serial number 992432. The note has a watermark depicting the image of Nuno Tristao and solid security thread right of center. A great note to add to your collection. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: The note is dated 17 December 1971.
Printer: Banco Nacional Ultramarino.
Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/2" by ~3 3/8".
Pick Number: P-45a and is listed in the Banknote Book as B146d.
Condition: I would grade this banknote as apparent crisp uncirculated with all the details being very well preserved. The note has no folds, no creases, no wrinkling, and no soiling. The note is also without pinholes or graffiti. Its corners are intact, fully squared, with no observable rounding. The edges are intact and show no roughness. The note retains all its original crispiness, stiffness, and sheen. The banknote has light brown stains on the back above the steam ship. These stains we believe are not due to circulation but rather due to miss handling. This is the main reason we are grading the note as apparent uncirculated and not pure uncirculated. Be that as it may, this is a very nice note to add to your collection. Please see scans for additional condition information.
