1973-1980 Great Britain Five Pounds with Queen Elizabeth Signed JB Page in Black But No L on the Back Prefix D27

  • $ 49.99

Description: A beautiful about uncirculated (actually the note would deserve an uncirculated grade except the note has four pinholes - it looks like it was stapled to something somewhere along the line) English 5 pounds banknote. This banknote was issued in 1973 through 1980 and has a blue-black and blue design on multi colored underprint. It shows a young Queen Elizabeth in court robes facing forward to the right of the front and displays the denomination. The back has the same color scheme as the front and displays the image of Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Willington right of center and a battle scene in Spain left of center. The back also displays the denomination. The banknote has a watermark showing Duke Willington's head in a row on the left of the front. The note is signed by J. B. Page the Chief Cashier the Bank of England at the time in black ink. However, the note does not have the letter "L" in the back at lower left, suggesting that this maybe an unlisted or unpublished variant. It has the prefix D27. This particular note has the serial number 555409 and has a vertical security strip located right of center if you look at the front of the note. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1973-80.

Printer: Bank of England.

Size: Measures ~5 3/4" by ~3 1/8".

Pick Number: P 378b.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good about uncirculated or better with all the details being very well preserved. The note has no graffiti or writing, no splits, no soiling, and no stains. It is crisp with no folds or wrinkling. The note has four pinholes, which appear to be from staples and this is the main reason we grade it as AU instead of uncirculated. We believe that if this note was graded by a grading service it would probably have the grade apparent uncirculated. Other than the pin holes the note is just beautiful and in great condition retaining its original stiffness, it original crispiness and its original sheen. Please see photo for additional condition information.
