1973 National Bank of Belgium 1000 Francs Banknote Cartographer Mercator P136 VF
Description: This a nice very fine banknote from Belgium. This is the National Bank of Belgium 1000 Francs issued 10*05*73 (May 10, 1973). The note is brown and blue in color on the front with the image of the cartographer Mercator to the left. There is also image of arms in the center and a globe near the bottom right corner. The back shows the image of the statue of the Greek God Atlas with a globe on his back left of center and a ship sailing right of center. The front is written in Flemish while the back is in French. Both sides show two signatures, the denomination, and the name of the bank. The front also shows the serial number. This particular note has the serial number 337095601 displayed in the bottom left corner and is series 1349 K 5601, which is displayed in the top right corner. The note has a watermark showing King Baudouin I in profile. Please carefully review scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: 10 May 1973.
Printer: Banque Nationale De Belgique (National Bank of Belgium).
Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/4" by ~3 1/8".
Pick Number: P 136b and is listed in the Banknote Book as B583c.
Condition: I would grade this banknote as good very fine with all the details being well preserved and retaining good colors. This attractive note has evidence of handling and some wear. It has folds both vertically and horizontally with bumps at the corners as well as rounding. The note is soiled and has some darkening along the edges (brown coloration, which is possibly foxing). The note has some staining especially along the folds and is more obvious on the back. It has roughness along the edges with minor nicks at the end of the folds. The note has no pinholes, no graffiti, no tears, and no splits. A nice and rather scarce note worthy of a spot in your collection. Please view the scan presented for additional condition information.
