1978 Glazed Redware Undecorated Deep Bowl by C. Ned Foltz

Description: Beautiful deep redware tall circular bowl with shaped collar like rim and circular base. The base has an incised band above it and rises with slightly curved sides to the shaped rim. There is a double incised line in the middle of the sides and an additional incised line right below the rim. The interior of the bowl is glazed and has a beautiful orangish-brown coloring, while the exterior and the base are not glazed and show the color of unglazed redware. the base of the piece is signed and dated by Ned Foltz. A beautiful piece of contemporary redware with great shape and color, which would make an excellent addition to your redware collection. Date: The piece is dated 1978.

Origin: Reinholds, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~4 1/2" in diameter at the base, ~7 3/8" diameter at the top, and is ~4 3/4" high. The piece weighs about two pounds and 12 ounces.

Maker: C. Ned Foltz.

Marks: Marked "c. n. Foltz; The Foltz Pottery; Reinholds, PA; 1978" with a cross below the writing all in cursive calligraphy on the bottom of the base.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a beautiful redware piece made in the best Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of Southeastern Pennsylvania. A definite beauty deserving of a prominent spot in your collection of Pennsylvania redware.

Condition: The piece is in excellent condition. It has no chips, cracks, repairs, or hairlines. The interior glaze shows general crazing throughout.
