1978 Redware Pie Plate Glazed with Slip Decoration by Andy Loercher
Description: Round redware pie plate with a flat and round base having sides that are flared outwards ending in a shaped edge with corrugated or scalloped rim with glazed depressions. The edge itself is divided into small glazed areas colored in brown with a yellow or yellowish white colored center alternating with none glazed areas. The remainder of the edge is unglazed but meets the inside of the plate which is glazed and has a brown coloring with yellow or yellowish white slip decoration. Very unusual looking and decorated plate. The back of the plate is unglazed and has the typical redware color and is plain. The artist's signature and date are incised on the bottom of the edge of the plate as shown in the last photo. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice, very unusual and substantial but delicate piece. The piece is beautiful, very unusual, in great condition, and would display nicely in any redware collection.
Condition: Plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or hairlines. The plate has general crazing to the glaze, which is difficult to see because of the dark color, but it is there. The back of the plate shows the mold marks as well as the work marks which can be seen in the fourth and fifth photo. These are original to the making and do not represent damage but rather technique. Be that as it may, it is a great looking plate, which would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
