1979 Carved Wood Mallard Drake Duck Decoy By Raymond Hornick Stoney Point Oak Hall VA Glass Eyes
Description: A beautiful decorative carved wood and painted duck decoy. This is a decoy representing what we believe is a male or drake Mallard duck. The piece is gray, brown, green and white in color with a very colorful head and black beak or bill and has what we believe is glass eyes. The decoy has no carved details except for general shape and curves within the head. The wings are outline in color and not by carving. The decoy has a flat bottom and lays flat on surface and would make for a great decorative piece. The piece is signed and dated by the artist on the bottom. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: The piece is dated 1979.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in southern New Jersey but was made in Virginia.
Size: The decoy measures ~10 1/4" long, 3 3/45" at its widest, and ~4 1/2" at its highest point. The piece weighs a little over 10 ounces.
Maker: Raymond Hornick.
Marks: The piece is marked "HORNICK BROS; STONEY POIUNT DECOYS; OAK HALL VIRGINIA" and signed in ink "Raymond Hornick, 1979" on the bottom.
Condition: The piece is in very good condition with minimum wear or losses to the paint. It is lightly soiled and could use a light wipe down to clean it. The decoy has no breaks or repairs and very vivid colors especially on the head. It has a few scratches and dings to the surface but these give the decoy true character. Be that as it may, this is a very nice piece which would display well in any collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
