1983 France 500 Francs Banknote Pick Number 156e Mathematician Blaise Pascal Good Extremely Fine
Description: A beautiful extremely fine banknote from France. This is the 1983 five hundred francs or cinq cents Francs. The banknote is dark brown on yellow brown background. It has the image of the famous mathematician Blaise Pascal with long hair and his hand on the side of his head. The front has the image of the tower of St. Jacques in Paris at the left of the central image of Pascal. The back is in the same color scheme as the front and displays Blaise Pascal bust in the same pose as the front in the center with the image of the Abbey of Port Royal to the left. This is a very nice note with a nice design sure to become a very desirable banknote with time. This particular note has the serial number 24425 displayed twice on the front but not on the back. It is a series C.189. It is dated E.2-6-1983.E. on the bottom center of the front. The banknote has a water mark depicting the head of Blaise Pascal displayed in the white area to the left of Pascal's head on the front. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date: 2-6-1983 or June 2, 1983.
Printer: Bank of France.
Size: The banknote measures ~7 1/8" by ~3 7/8".
Pick Number: P 156a
Condition: I would grade this banknote as a extremely fine or better with all the details being very well preserved. The note has three light vertical folds, but no apparent horizontal folds. It has general light wrinkling and a few small creases especially near the corners. It has no appreciable soiling or staining. It has a group of pinholes near the top left corner as you look at the note from the front near the corner. However, the corners are intact with minimal rounding but show signs of light folding. The note has no tears or splits and retains quite a bit of its original crispiness. This is a beautiful note that is nicely margined and would make a great addition to your collection of French banknotes. Please see photo for additional condition information.
