1983 Redware Beautiful Cut-out Cow Ned Foltz First Cut-out Cow As Noted By Him in 2012

Description: A beautiful redware cut-out cow shaped plaque. This slip decorated and glazed plaque is orangish-brown in color with yellow slip highlighting the cow's facial features, udder, tail, hoofs, and body blotches. The cow has a rope inserted within two holes on top to hang it from. The back of the plaque is unglazed and shows the typical color of unglazed redware. The plaque has an impressed stamp indicating the piece was made at the Foltz Pottery Pennsylvania 1983. The piece also has hand writing on the back in dark ink with the words "my first cut-out cow - 1983 Ned Foltz - 2012." This was written by Ned Foltz during a sale at his home in 2012 indicating that he had kept this piece in his collection because it was his first cut-out plaque. Date: 1983.

Origin: Reinholds, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Purchased at a sale in Mr. Foltz's home in 2012, where it was signed by him in ink with the interesting notation indicating that this was his first.

Size: Measures ~9 1/4" in length, is ~5 1/4"heigh, and is ~1/4" thick. The piece weighs almost 14 ounces.

Maker: C. Ned Foltz.

Marks: Stamped "Foltz Pottery Pennsylvania 1983" in a circle and has annotation in ink written by Ned Foltz himself which says "my first cut-out cow-1983; Ned Foltz-2012."
