1990 Redware Glazed Brown Colored with Mottling Halloween Jack O Lantern By Ned Foltz
Description: A beautiful glazed brown colored redware Halloween Jack O Lantern. This Jack O Lantern, which was made by C. Ned Foltz is shaped like a pumpkin with star eyes, an upside down heart for a nose, and a mouth. The piece has a yellowish-brown mottling at the top and has a flat base. The entire piece is glazed except for the base which is not and still show the typical color of unglazed redware. The bowl is signed and dated by the artist on the base. A nice piece of Halloween decoration and contemporary redware made in the studios of a great master potter worthy of a spot in your collection. Origin: Reinholds, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Size: Measures ~3 1/4" in diameter at the base, ~4 1/4" in diameter at the top, and is ~3 7/8" high. The piece weighs about 1 pounds and 3 ounces.
Maker: C. Ned Foltz.
Marks: Marked "Foltz Pottery Mark; Pa 1990" with a cross to the bottom of the writing all in cursive calligraphy on the bottom of the base.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a beautiful redware Halloween piece made in the best Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of Southeastern Pennsylvania. A definite beauty deserving of a prominent spot in any redware or Halloween collection.
Condition: The piece is in excellent condition. It has no chips, cracks, repairs, or hairlines. The plate has general crazing to the glaze, which is difficult to see due to the coloring of the piece but is there.
