1992 Glazed Redware Egg Glazed Yellow and Brown Butterfly and Flowers Sgraffito Design by Lester Breininger
Description: A nice size redware egg made by Lester Breininger. The glazed egg is beautifully decorated with a sgraffito design showing a butterfly flying in the midst of pink flowers. The butterfly is brown with blue spots on a yellow background on top with green sponged highlights. The bottom of the egg has a flattened base and is brown in color. The egg is signed "B + LB PA 1992" for Barbara and Lester Breininger 1992, on the flat surface where it sits. The PA for Pennsylvania is within a keystone, which is the symbol for Pennsylvania. This egg was obviously made by the master potter himself and decorated by his wife. A relatively uncommon occurrence. This is a very nice redware egg with a beautiful Easter or spring design and colors. The egg is entirely glazed and looks great. Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice piece we believe was made by Lester Breininger the master potter from Robesonia Pennsylvania, himself and decorated by his wife Barbara. It represented a great example of the master potter's work and would make a great celebratory piece for Easter or a great addition to any redware collection. Note that Mr. Breininger died in December 2011 and as such his pottery has become very desirable and sought-after. A nice and well made piece worthy of a spot in your collection of contemporary redware.
Condition: The egg is in very good condition. It has no cracks, no repairs, no chips, no crazing to the glaze, and no hairlines. The egg does have a few of the usual defects you would expect with all these primitive redware pieces such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas and uneven spots. However, these are original to the making and are difficult to see but can be felt. Regardless this is a beautiful piece in excellent condition. Please see photos to appreciate its beauty and for additional condition information.
