1992 Redware PA Tulipware Dish Tulips & Heart Decorated Pot Oley Valley G. Yoder

Description: A beautiful and very unusual small (~6" diameter) flat dish having raised scalloped edge by Gerald Yoder of Oley Valley. The dish which has a very unusual raised wavy rim has a wide brown edge transitioning to a light brown band, which progresses to a yellowish-brown center having a beautiful design within it. The design depicts a three colorful tulip flowers emanating from a two-handled pot with a heart decoration. The flowers and the heart decorated pot are very much basic Pennsylvania Dutch symbols and are very common in their art. The piece is beautifully colored in blue, brown, yellow, and green. This small plate is glazed on top but is unglazed on the back. It is typical of Pennsylvania German tulipware and is so titled by the artist. The back is signed and dated by the artist. This is a rare dish from the Oley Valley pottery made by one of the best potters with the Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Size: The dish measures ~6" diameter and is ~1/2" high. The piece weighs almost 5.5 ounces.

Marks: In cursive calligraphy marked on the bottom as follows; "Pennsylvania German Tulipware" in two lines followed by a line having three tulips flanked by two curved scrolls then the words "Gerald H. Yoder; William T Logan; Oley Valley; May 11; 1992" in 5 lines. See photos for additional details.  

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a top quality folk art piece of redware that is made by one of the best folk artists in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Gerry Yoder is a winner of many awards and is a member of the Pennsylvania Folk art guild. It has a beautiful Pennsylvania Dutch theme represented by the tulips and the heart decorated pot. Just a great piece deserving a prominent spot in your redware collection.  

Condition: The dish is in very good condition with no cracks, repairs, chips, or hairlines. The piece has general crazing to the glaze and the back has residue from labels that was removed in the past as well as some light soiling and stains. Other than that, the piece is in absolutely very good condition, is solid with uncompromised integrity, and is just gorgeous.
