1993 Breininger Redware Miniature Jar Sgraffito Distelfink Tulips Moravian Color
Description: A beautiful and very unusual miniature glazed and sgraffito decorated redware jar by the Breininger Pottery. The miniature jar is decorated with Tulips on one side and a distelfink bird on the opposite side. The decorations are framed within panels and as such this represents what we would call a panel jar. The jar is colored in black and brown with some yellow and green highlight in the Moravian folk-art style. The piece is very well done and very unusual in size and colors. The decoration is in the Pennsylvania German folk are style of which the Moravians are part. The jar has a flat round base with curved sides rising to a flared formed plain edge. This miniature jar is very well done and has a very shiny dark surface, which is very beautiful. The basket is also glazed on the inside with a brown colored surface but not on the bottom of the base. The bottom of the basket has the characteristic color of unglazed redware and is marked by the artist. The jar was made in the studios of Lester Breininger in March 1993 and appears to be a limited edition of which it is #2. It was most likely a thrown piece made by two of his top potters working in his studio at the time. A great looking piece of redware of the highest quality that would look great in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful miniature and very unusual jar made by the Breininger Pottery. A beautiful redware piece, which deserves a prominent spot in your redware collection.
Condition: The miniature panel jar is in excellent condition. It has no cracks, chips, repairs, or hairlines. We are unable to observe any signs of crazing to the glaze, but the color of the piece makes it very difficult to see such issues. The jar has a few of the usual defects you would expect with all these primitive redware pieces such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas and uneven spots. However, this piece has a minimum number of these issues, which are hardly noticeable. Please see photos for additional condition information and to appreciate the beauty of this piece.
