1994 Greg & Mary Spellmire Shooner Redware Glazed 10.5" Plate Yellow Slip Décor

Description: A nice round large (10 1/2") plate with a slightly flattened base and having flared rounded sides terminating in a lightly coggled rim. The plate has a slip design in yellow coloring showing repeating loops connected in three rows separated by wavy lines. The loops have spring of leaves in their center. The yellow slip decoration is on an orangish-brown colored background. The back of the plate has the maker's mark of Greg Shooner and is signed by Mary Spellmire-Shooner. The back is also dated and has the image of a child face with wings. The plate, as usual with all Shooner pieces, is a reproduction of a late eighteenth or early nineteenth century pieces of primitive redware. It is a nice-looking plate and would make a great addition to your collection. Please view the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Size: Measures ~10 1/2" in diameter and is ~1 1/2" to ~2" high. The plate weighs about one pound and 14 ounces.

Maker: Greg Shooner.

Marks: Marked on back "American Redware; Greg Shooner; Oregonia, O" with a rectangular stamp below saying "This Glaze Contains Lead; Not for Food Storage or Use" the date "1994" below it and signed Mary Spellmire-Shooner; with a drawing of a winged child's face below it all. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice large plate with a nice and very desirable design. It is beautiful, solid, and substantial plate weighing almost 2 pounds. A definite beauty, which deserves a prominent spot in any redware collection.

Condition: Plate is in very good condition with no cracks, hairlines, or repairs. It has no unintentional chips, cracks, scratches, or glaze loss. The plate does have intentional chips along the rim, crazing, a few spots where the glaze is lost, and some scuff marks and scratches throughout. All of these can be seen in the photo. Of course, all of these are intentional to give the plate the required look of the reproduced plate from days gone by. Please see photos for additional condition information.
