1995 Redware Small Pie Plate Glazed and Sgraffito Decorated Black Halloween Scarecrow by Lester Breininger
Description: A small (6 7/8") redware pie plate. The plate has round flat base with slightly rounded flared sides. The sides terminate at a coggled rim. The exterior of the plate as well as the bottom are not glazed and display the typical coloring of unglazed redware pottery. The inside is glazed with a orangish-brown colored background and has a sgraffito and slip design of a black scarecrow's head . The Halloween Scarecrow has its mouth open and shows an angry expression. He is wearing a pointy hat and has long hair. The mouth, the nose, the eyes, hair, and hat outline are shown using sgraffito technique. The rest of the head is colored in black slip. This is a beautiful Halloween plate that is unusual. The back of the plate is marked as to the maker and the date the piece was made. Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
