2000 Greg Shooner Redware Yellow Deep Pie Plate Slip Decorated Stylized Horse

Description: A nice round and relatively deep pie plate with rounded base and flared rounded sides terminating in a coggled rim. The plate has a slip design of stylized galloping horse colored in dark brown with green colored plants in front and behind it. There is also the date 1801 above the horse and green and brown lines below it all on a yellow background. The design is surrounded by two sgraffito circles with a wavy line in brown between them. This plate, as usual with all Shooner pieces, is a reproduction of an early nineteenth century piece. It is a nice looking plate and would make a great addition to your collection. Origin: Ohio, USA.

Size: Measures ~9 1/4" in diameter and is ~2" high. The plate weighs over one pound and ten ounces.

Maker: Greg Shooner.

Marks: "Shooner American Redware; Oregonia, O; Mary Spellmire Shooner; This Glaze Contains Lead; Not for Food Storage or Use" and signed Greg Shooner 2000 in cursive calligraphy on bottom.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice plate with a nice and unusual design. This is a beautiful, solid and substantial plate weighing over a pound and ten ounces. A definite beauty, which deserves a prominent spot in any redware collection.

Condition: Plate is in excellent condition with no unintentional chips, cracks, repairs or hairlines. The plate does have intentional chips along the rim, crazing, a few spots where the glaze is lost, and some scuff marks on the horse. All of these can be seen in the photo. Of course, all of these are intentional to give the plate the required look of the reproduced plate from 1801. Please see photos for additional condition information.
