2002 Glazed Redware Tall Jar Tulip Sgraffito Decoration Made and Decorated by Ned Foltz Himself

Description: Beautiful glazed and sgraffito decorated redware tall jar. The jar has a round flat base with a shaped edge and straight sides rising to a shoulder which goes to a short neck ending in a shaped plain rim. The sides of the jar are decorated with a sgraffito design depicting tulips on branches with green colored leaves. The piece is colored in a beautiful light brown coloring with dark speckles throughout. The piece is obviously hand turned as you can see the potter's finger ridges along the side. The piece was hand turned by the master himself according to the legend engraved on the bottom which says "Hand turned and slip decorated by Ned Foltz at the Foltz Pottery Reinholds, Pa, 2002." A great and unusual piece made and signed by the artist that is in great condition. A beautiful piece of contemporary redware with great shape and color, which would make an excellent addition to your redware collection. Date: The piece is date 2002 on the bottom.

Origin: Reinholds, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~5 1/4" in diameter at the base, ~3 1/2" in diameter at the top opening, and is ~6 7/8" high. The piece weighs over three pounds and 6 ounces.

Maker: C. Ned Foltz.

Marks: Marked "Hand turned and slip decorated by ned Foltz at the Foltz Pottery Reinholds, Pa, 2002" in cursive calligraphy on the base.

It has no chips, cracks, repairs, or hairlines. The glaze shows general crazing to the glaze throughout, but is not evident because of the color of the piece.
