2007 Breininger Glazed Redware Large Yellow Easter Egg Sgraffito Tulips & Leaves

  • $ 77.77

Description: This is a rather large and unusual redware egg made in the studios of Lester Breininger. The glazed egg is beautifully decorated with a sgraffito design showing flowers (tulips) in three separate rows going all around the circumference of the egg separated by a brown line. The top of the egg has a large fully open and colorful flower. The egg has a flat round base on which it would stand. The egg is yellow in color with the flowers colored in brown with a red dot either in the center or right outside it on top. There is a row of leaves on the bottom. The egg is marked as to the maker and the date on the flattened base. The egg is marked "LB et. al. 07" for Lester Breininger and company 2007 on the flat surface where it stands. This is a very nice, and unusual both in size and shape, redware egg with a beautiful design and colors. The egg is entirely glazed and looks great. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice piece made in the studios of Lester Breininger the master potter from Robesonia Pennsylvania. It represented a great example of the master potter's work and would make a great celebratory piece for Easter or Spring. It would make a great addition to any redware collection. Note that Mr. Breininger died in December 2011 and as such his pottery has become very desirable and sought-after. A nice and well-made piece worthy of a spot in your collection of contemporary redware.

Condition: The egg is in very good condition. It has no cracks, no repairs, no chips, no hairlines, and no repairs. The piece has general crazing to the glaze, which is difficult to see but is there. The egg does have a few of the usual defects you would expect with all these primitive redware pieces such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas and uneven spots. However, these are original to the making and are difficult to see but can be felt. Regardless, this is a beautiful piece in excellent condition. Please see photos to appreciate its beauty and for additional condition information.
