A Large 9' by 5' Cotton 48 Star American Flag or Old Glory Stitched Stripes and Stars
Description: This is a nice very large 48 star United States flag. This flag has stitched stripes and stars. It is vintage and is in good used condition. The flag is lightly soiled, but is intact with no tears or rips. The flag has two heavy metal loops at the corners of one end held to the flag with brass rivets. The 48 star American Flag was adopted in the period from 1912-1959. The flag measures nine feet by 5 feet nominally and is so marked. It has some faded markings on the edge and as such we are unable to identify the maker. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Sometime in the period 1912-1959. This flag was most likely made closer to 1940s-1950s.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: We measured the flag and we get the dimensions ~9' 3" by ~4' 8" (~9 by 5 feet). The flag weighs over two and a half pounds.
Marks: Has a marks on the edge which we show in the last photo, but we are unable to read them.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a rather nice and well made a 48 star fully stitched cotton flag. It would be a great addition to any collection.
Condition: The flag is in very good condition with no losses and no repairs. The flag has both metal loops, where the rope to fly it would go, intact and solidly in place. The flag has no holes, no tears, and no rips. It is lightly soiled and has some red marks in the blue area of the flag which can be seen fifth photo. We believe this is paint or some sort of coloring which can be removed or cleaned, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Again, we believe the soiling and the stains can be cleaned but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner (see photos). Other than that the flag is very nice and would make a great addition to your US Flag collection or can be proudly flown over your home. Please see photos for additional condition information.
