Antique Agateware Graniteware Lidded Coffee Pot or Water Pitcher w/ Wood Finial

Description: An Antique agateware or graniteware pitcher or coffee pot having a flat base and straight inwards flared sides terminating in a rolled rim colored in mottled gray coloring. The pitcher has a triangular shaped spout with a strainer and an applied handle. Again, the pitcher has the typical grayish mottled enameling inside and out and on the bottom. The domed lid is attached to the handle with a tin type mechanism and has a wooden finial. This is an old and beautiful American agate ware pot with a beautiful design and shape. Date: Mid to late 1800s.

Origin: Recently acquired at an estate in Lancaster County Pennsylvania.

Size: The pot measure ~5 1/4" diameter at the base, it is ~8 3/4 high, and is about 7 1/2" at its widest including the spout and handle. The pot weighs slightly over 12 ounces.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice piece of Americana that would display nicely in any collection. A nice piece of Americana, which would make a worthy addition to your collection.

Condition: The pot is in good condition given its age and utilitarian function. It would look good in a display of agateware implements. It does have several spots were the enameling is lost especially along the top edge and the lid. It also has some rust spots on the inside at the base and on top of the lid. The finial is solidly in place, is intact, and looks good. A great looking piece of Americana, which will look good in your collection.
