Antique American Primitive Folk Art Painted Green and Red Wood Checkers Game Board

Description: A beautiful antique painted wood checkers or chess game board. This old wood game board has green and red squares primitively painted over the old board. The board has a top and bottom strips of wood nailed to the board itself with large nails having large round heads. The top of the board has a newly added round metal hoop to hang the board from to use as a decorative element. The back of the board is undecorated and shows its age and wear. The top and bottom edges of the board show wear, cracks, and losses of the wood. The colors appear to be original and very crudely done. A great piece of American primitives too add to your collection or to use to decorate your country home. Please see the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain but most likely sometime late 1800's to early 1900's but could be earlier.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Eastern Massachusetts.

Size: The board measures ~23 1/2" by ~17 1/2" and is ~3/4" thick. The board weighs about 5 pounds 3 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A very nice piece of primitive Americana game board that can be used to decorate your home or as a great addition to your collection of Antique American Folk Art. Made of beautiful wood with great looking colors. Condition: The piece is in relatively very good condition with general wear to the edges of the board with cracks, wear and losses to the wood. It retains its original paint and shows honest wear and use. The board is soiled, has color losses, several scratches, dings to the surface, stains here and there, and holes as well as losses to the wood throughout.
