Antique Brainard & Wilson Silk Lined Metal Dresser or Trinket Box Art Nouveau Raised Woman Design
Description: An antique and rather heavy metal footed dresser box. The box which may be made of bronze, the box is rather heavy for its weight, has a hinged lid with a raised Art Nouveau design depicting a beautiful maiden with flowing hair. The interior of the box is lined with a pink cloth which has some padding under it. The sides of the box have a simple raised design of a central flower with a long branch on the front and back and a raised oval shape surrounded by leaves in the center of the sides. The box was made by Brainard and Wilson as evidenced by the mark B&W within an oval on the underside of the box. The box has a nice milk chocolate coloring with some dark highlights on the raised design from use. This box was made in the early 1900's and has withstood use for over 100 years beautifully. Date: Uncertain but most likely late 1800's or very early 1900's.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: Measures ~41/2" long, ~2 1/4" wide, and ~2 1/4" high with the lid closed to the top design. The piece weighs over one pound.
Maker: Brainard and Wilson.
Marks: Marked with raised lettering B&W within an oval and the number 142 above it on the underside of the box.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful antique which would make a great addition to any collection.
Condition: The box is in very good condition with no repairs. The hinge intact and works as it should. The interior silky material lining is a bit soiled but is intact with no losses or objectionable damage. The chocolate coloring of the exterior has losses especially on some of the high points of the design all of which can be seen in the photos. There are additional losses of the coloring here and there which can also be seen in the photos. Other than that the box has no breaks or repairs and is in great original condition showing signs of honest wear from use.
