Antique Carved Wood Primitive Butter Print Four-part Floral Design Marked HL
Date: Unknown, but most likely late 1800s to early 1900s.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: Measures ~3 15/16" in diameter at the design part and is ~3" high. The piece weighs about 1.5 ounces.
Marks: Marked with the engraved letters HL presumably the initials of the carver who made the print.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very interesting old butter print with a nice design that is signed by the carver. Nice and very unusual butter print, which would make a nice addition to your collection.
Condition: The piece is in very good original condition with no breaks, repairs, or losses. The handle and back show some minor wear, light soiling, and age cracks to the wood. The front is clean and shows age cracks in the wood. All these cracks can be seen in the photos. They do not go completely through and do not compromise the integrity of the piece. The piece also shows scratches and minor dings. The design is clean suggesting the piece did not see much use, but rather was cherished by its previous owner. It has no losses and looks great.
